Gotham Advanced Media and Entertainment, a joint venture between MSG Networks and YES Network, plans to launch a new app in the fall that will stream local games from seven New York-area teams.
The package announced Wednesday is believed to be the first time two regional sports networks have combined their apps into a bundled option.
The Gotham Sports app will launch ahead of the NBA and NHL seasons. Locals will be able to watch the New York Knicks, New York Rangers, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, Buffalo Sabres, Brooklyn Nets and New York Yankees with a subscription.
The Gotham package, which gives you access to all of these teams, will cost $359.99 per year and $41.99 per month, which is almost identical to the monthly price of fox, Disney and Warner Bros. DiscoveryThe streaming service Venu was banned by a temporary injunction earlier this month.
Customers who only watch some of these teams can purchase access to the MSG+ or YES App services for $29.99 and $24.99 per month, respectively. If they already have MSG Networks and YES Network via their pay TV subscription, they will get the Gotham Sports App services at no additional charge.
“With the increasingly fragmented outlets that broadcast fans’ favorite sports programming, the Gotham Sports app gives fans of our teams an easy access point to New York-area sporting events from MSG Networks and YES Network,” said Andrea Greenberg, CEO of MSG Networks, in a press release.
It’s worth noting that SportsNet New York, the regional sports network that airs New York Mets games, is not part of the joint venture. It’s only available via FuboTV, DirecTV stream, and online sign-in for people who pay for cable.

The regional sports network business has undergone a radical change in recent years. The Boston local cable network that airs Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins games launched its first standalone regional streaming service in 2022, with other markets following suit.
Diamond Sports Group, the largest owner of regional sports networks, declared bankruptcy in March 2023, prompting many professional teams across the leagues to change the way they broadcast their games.
A handful of NBA, WNBA and NHL teams have turned to local broadcasting, most recently the NBA's New Orleans Pelicans and Dallas Mavericks.
Some Major League Baseball teams have chosen to have the league produce their games.
Gotham Sports isn’t the first regional sports streaming option for New York City residents. YES Network and MSG Networks both launched separate streaming services last year, and customers who want just one of the networks and not the bundled package can still pay a cheaper price.
Not all new regional sports streaming services follow the subscription model. The National Hockey League’s Dallas Stars and Anaheim Ducks have announced that their games will be broadcast locally on Victory+, a free, ad-supported streaming service owned by A Parent Media Co.
The teams' home games were previously broadcast on a regional sports network owned by Diamond Sports.
