Investor John Paulson on Tuesday removed himself from the list of potential nominees for Treasury Secretary by President-elect Donald Trump.
“My complex financial obligations will prevent me from holding an official position in President Trump’s administration at this time,” Paulson said.
“However, I intend to continue to actively engage with the President’s economic team and help implement President Trump’s landmark policy proposals,” Paulson said in a statement.
Donor Trump, head of the Paulson & Co. family office, is best known for shorting the subprime mortgage market in 2007, a year before the financial crisis.
Paulson predicted in September that the stock market would collapse if Vice President Kamala Harris won the presidential election.
The Wall Street Journal first reported that Paulson had withdrawn as Treasury Secretary.
