President-elect Donald Trump is considering appointing Kevin Warsh as Treasury Secretary and eventually sending him to serve as Chairman of the Federal Reserve, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
Warsh was a former governor of the Federal Reserve, and will move to the central bank after current President Jerome Powell's term ends in 2026, according to the newspaper, which quoted sources familiar with Trump's thinking.
This speculation comes with the Treasury Department being the last major Cabinet position that Trump has not yet announced his intention to fill.
Various reports have placed Warsh as one of the finalists along with Apollo Global Management CEO Mark Rowan and hedge fund manager Scott Besant. One possible scenario is one in which Besant would initially lead the National Economic Council and then move to the Treasury Department after Warsh takes over the Fed.
However, Trump is known for his tendency to change his mind, and the report noted that nothing has been finalized.
