All Asia-Pacific markets fell on Monday as the region looked ahead to key economic data out of China.
The world's second-largest economy will release May figures for retail sales, industrial production and the urban unemployment rate.
The People's Bank of China is also expected to announce its one-year medium-term lending rate, with economists polled by Reuters expecting no change to the current rate of 2.5%.
Hong Kong Hang Seng Index Futures were at 17,794, below the HSI's last close of 17,941.78.
Japan Nikki 225 The Topix fell 1.26% at its open, while the Topix also saw a similar loss of 1.07%.
South Korea Cosby The KOSPI small-cap index was down 0.55%, down 0.27%.
Australia's S&P/ASX 200 index started the day down 0.12%. Traders are preparing for the Reserve Bank of Australia's interest rate decision on Tuesday.
On Friday in the United States, the Nasdaq Composite posted a fifth straight winning session, adding 0.12%, while the S&P 500 fell 0.04%, snapping a four-day winning streak.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.15%, recording four straight days of losses.
