Elon Musk posted on Twitter that he “fully” supports Donald Trump moments after the former president and presumptive Republican nominee was escorted off stage by Secret Service agents after being shot at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
“I fully support President Trump and hope he makes a speedy recovery,” Musk wrote on his personal page on the social networking site “X”, which he owns.
Trump was taken to a local medical facility, where he is receiving care. His spokesman said the former president “will be fine.” Trump was bleeding on the side of his head and ear.
In a separate post, Musk, the CEO of Tesla and defense contractor SpaceX, shared an image of Trump raising his fist in the air with the American flag behind him and Secret Service agents rushing to protect him. Musk also compared Trump to Theodore Roosevelt, who survived an assassination attempt while campaigning for president in 1912.
The Butler County prosecutor, where the rally was held, said one spectator was dead and another was in critical condition. NBC News confirmed the shooter was dead.
While Musk had not directly endorsed Trump before Saturday’s event, he has made clear that he opposes President Joe Biden returning to the White House, and claimed in a March post that he would not donate any money to either presidential candidate.
Musk met Trump earlier this year at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, and told Tesla’s 2024 annual shareholder meeting that he had “had some conversations” with Trump. Musk also said at that event that Trump “called me up out of the blue for no reason.”
On Friday, Bloomberg reported that Musk had donated a “significant” but undisclosed sum to a pro-Trump political action committee called America PAC.
Musk is the richest person in the world, with a net worth estimated at $250 billion, according to Forbes magazine.
