Less than three months after announcing plans to contribute to political action committees supporting Donald Trump's presidential campaign, venture capitalist Ben Horowitz said he is donating to Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential bid, CNBC has confirmed.
In a letter to employees of venture firm Andreessen Horowitz, the technology investor said that he and his wife, Felicia, have a long-standing friendship with Harris. Axios was the first to report the message. A person close to the company, who requested anonymity to speak freely about the matter, confirmed the content of the letter.
“I wanted to give you an update on my political activity.” Horowitz wrote. “As I mentioned before, Felicia and I have known Vice President Harris for over 10 years and she has been a great friend to both of us during that time.”
“As a result of our friendship, Felicia and I will make a significant donation to entities supporting the Harris Falls campaign,” Horowitz continued.
Andreessen and Horowitz, who founded their company in 2009, have not made formal endorsements before the 2024 election. Their financial support for the Trump campaign was due to what they called a better “small tech agenda.”
“Our political efforts as a company are focused entirely on defending Little Tech,” they wrote in a blog post on July 5. “We do not engage in political fights outside of issues directly related to Little Tech.”
Andreessen and Horowitz were particularly critical of the Biden administration and its stance toward startups and cryptocurrencies. In his final letter, Horowitz said he was encouraged by his faith in Harris after conversations with her and her team, but they “have not yet stated what their technology policy will be, so the company will not update its position in this regard.”
