Amazon The payment function experienced technical issues on Friday, preventing customers from completing purchases. The e-commerce site displayed error messages with pictures of dogs during the outage as people posted about them on social media.
Amazon relies on its own data center infrastructure to power its website. But Amazon Web Services did not report any technical issues while the payment feature was down. An AWS outage can cause problems across the internet because many businesses rely on the market-leading public cloud.
An Amazon spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In the run-up to the long weekend in the US, Amazon began promoting discounts on products as part of its Labor Day sales. But people were unable to buy the discounted products due to the glitch, as some people on the X social network pointed out.
The Amazon Help account responded to X with a recommendation to contact the company.
Amazon has warned investors that technical incidents could lead to lower sales and a deterioration in the image of the company's products and services. Sales grew well at about $148 billion in the second quarter.
